Vax-D for Headaches – in Chicago

Headaches are no fun for anyone, but continued headaches and neck pain can have significant negative effect on your quality of life. If you have chronic headaches, you may have been diagnosed with migraines, while in reality you may be a victim of spinal issues (for example, Cervicogenic Headaches), like disc bulging or herniation. In many cases, surgery is recommended to address those issues, but here at American Back Center, we believe in a non-invasive approach. Our Chicago clinic was among the first clinics in the nation to utilize Vax-D spinal decompression therapy, which is FDA approved, and offers effective relief of headaches caused by cervical disc problems. If you are having headaches or neck pain, make an appointment and let us help you.

How Spinal Issues Cause Headaches?

The top part of a human spine (the cervical spine) consists of the top seven vertebrae in the spinal column. Nested in between the vertebrae are discs, which act as cushions between the bones. Discs have a gel-like internal core and harder external surface layers. During our daily activities, discs can develop small cracks in the outer layers. Those cracks can be the results of sudden neck movement, poor posture, etc. As those cracks become more numerous, a series of issues may arise – from disc degeneration (that’s when the disc dries up like a raisin and space between vertebrae is reduced) to disc bulging and herniation (that’s when the interior core pushes outward and creates bumps on the surface of the disc). Those conditions can cause nerves in your spine to be pinched or otherwise irritated, and that causes the unpleasant sensations.

How Can Vax-D Help?

While there are a variety of treatment options for cervical disc issues, most of them require surgical invasion. But we believe that it is largely unnecessary.

Vax-D spinal decompression therapy is a patented, FDA approved treatment that is non-invasive. Vax-D therapy is done on a specially designed table, with the patient’s spine alternating between stretching and rest. Decompression of the cervical spine, which is caused by stretching, creates negative pressure that works to restore disc health and causes the bulging inner core of the disc to retract back. As a result, the pinched or irritated nerves are released and the pain subsides.
