Spinal decompression is a non-surgical treatment option for certain types of back pain and neck
pain. It is also sometimes used to treat sciatica. Spinal decompression therapy works by gently
stretching the spine. This change in pressure and position takes the pressure off the spinal discs,
which are gel-like cushions between the bones in your spine. This can help relieve pain and
promote healing.

Spinal Decompression Effectively Treats Disc problems

Disc problems are one of the most common sources of back and neck pain. The discs act as
cushions between the vertebrae, and when they become damaged or degenerate, they can cause
pain, numbness, and weakness. Spinal decompression is a non-surgical treatment that can
effectively treat disc problems by reducing the pressure on the discs.
Spinal decompression works by gently stretching the spine. This creates negative pressure in the
discs, which allows them to heal and repair themselves. Spinal decompression has been shown
to be effective in treating herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, and other disc-related
conditions.
If you are suffering from back or neck pain caused by a disc problem, spinal decompression may
be an effective treatment option for you. To find out if you are a candidate for this treatment,
please contact our office to schedule a consultation with one of our experienced Chris Edginton
at American Back Center.

Chronic Back Pain

Chronic back pain is one of the most common forms of pain. It can be caused by a number of
different factors, including muscle strain, joint problems, and disk degeneration. Chronic back pain
can be difficult to treat, but there are a number of options available.
One treatment option for chronic back pain is spinal decompression. Spinal decompression is a
non-surgical procedure that uses gentle traction to relieve pressure on the spine. This can help
to reduce pain and improve function.
Spinal decompression is typically done as an outpatient procedure, and most people tolerate it
well. There are a few potential side effects, such as headaches or dizziness, but these are usually
mild and resolve quickly.
If you are suffering from chronic back pain, spinal decompression may be a treatment option worth
considering. Talk to your doctor about whether this procedure is right for you.

Chronic Neck Pain

Chronic neck pain is one of the most common conditions treated by spinal decompression
therapy. Spinal decompression therapy is a non-surgical treatment option for chronic neck pain
that uses traction to stretch and relieve pressure on the spine.
Spinal decompression therapy is often used to treat herniated discs, degenerative disc disease,
pinched nerves, and other conditions that can cause chronic neck pain. The goal of spinal
decompression therapy is to relieve pressure on the spine and nerves, which can help to reduce
pain and improve function.
Spinal decompression therapy is typically done as a series of sessions over a period of weeks or
months. During each session, you will lie on a table with your head and neck support while a
machine applies gentle traction to your spine.
Most people who undergo spinal decompression therapy report significant improvements in their
pain levels and function. If you are considering this treatment option for chronic neck pain, be sure
to consult with a Chicago Edginton at American Back center.

What is Sciatica?

Sciatica is a term used to describe the symptoms of leg pain—and possibly tingling numbness
or weakness—that originate in the lower back and travel through the buttock and down the large
sciatic nerve in the back of each leg. Sciatica most commonly occurs when a herniated disk, bone
spur on the spine, or narrowing of the spine compresses part of the nerve. This causes
inflammation and irritation that radiates out along the path of the nerve to cause pain in the legs.

Failed back surgery

Back surgery is often seen as a last resort for treating chronic back pain. But what happens when the surgery doesn’t work? Failed back surgery is a serious problem that can leave patients in even more pain than before. Your doctor must be able to connect your recent spinal surgery to your current spinal condition. For instance, if you experience back pain five years after having spine surgery, your doctor might discover that the reason for your current discomfort is actually aging-related wear and tear on your spine (such as degenerative changes).

Bulging disc

A bulging disc is a common condition that can occur when the discs in your spine become damaged. The discs are the cushions between the vertebrae, and they act as shock absorbers for the spine. When they become damaged, they can bulge or rupture, which can cause pain, numbness, and weakness. Bulging discs are often caused by degenerative changes in the spine, such as those that occur with aging. They can also be caused by injuries, such as car accidents or falls. Treatment for bulging discs depends on the severity of the condition and the symptoms you are experiencing. If the bulging disc is not causing any pain or other symptoms, then treatment may not be necessary. However, if you are experiencing pain or other symptoms, treatment options include physical therapy, injections, and surgery.

Lumbar disc extrusion

A lumbar disc extrusion is a condition where the inner, gel-like substance of the disc bulges out through a tear in the surrounding outer layer. This could irritate neighboring nerves and make them hurt. Disc extrusions are often caused by wear and tear on the discs, which can happen with age or after an injury. They may also be caused by degenerative disc disease, a condition that causes the discs to break down over time.

Disc extrusions can be very painful and may require surgery to correct. In some cases, the extruded disc material can be removed surgically. In other cases, the entire disc may need to be removed (discectomy).

If you have had failed back surgery, it is important to talk to your doctor about all of your treatment options. Surgery for a lumbar disc extrusion may not be your only option and there may be other treatments that can help relieve your pain.

Downtown Chicago physiotherapy

If you’re dealing with failed back surgery, you’re not alone. In fact, according to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, up to 50% of people who have back surgery will experience chronic pain and disability afterward.

Fortunately, there is hope. At downtown Chicago physiotherapy, we specialize in helping people recover from failed back surgery. We use a combination of Physical Therapy, Massage Therapy, and Acupuncture to help our patients find relief from their chronic pain.

We understand that each patient is unique, which is why we tailor our treatment plans to fit each individual’s needs. We’ll work with you to find the right combination of therapies that will provide the most relief for your specific situation.

To arrange a consultation, get in touch with us right now if you’re ready to start feeling better. We’ll help you get on the road to recovery and finally start living pain-free.

Physiotherapist downtown Chicago

If you’re looking for a physiotherapist in downtown Chicago, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, make sure the physiotherapist is experienced in treating patients with failed back surgery.
Second, check to see if the physiotherapist is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association.
Finally, ask the physiotherapist for references from other patients who have had successful treatment with him or her.

Neck Pain Chicago

Neck pain

Can range anywhere from a chronic, long-standing, low-grade complaint to debilitating, sudden-onset, and life-altering pain. Sometimes the condition switches from one to the other with no known reason while at other times there’s an obvious event that led to the concern. Because if its varied presentations, it can affect all ages. However, we’re noticing an increase in the the condition with the rise in desk-oriented office work that keeps employees tied to their work stations and computers for hours at end.

According to the National Institute of Health report from 2012 at any one time, 15% of the population has some type of neck pain. Of that 15%, over half seek care for their neck pain from a non-medical, or complementary sources of treatment. Patients at large are gravitating towards non-pharmaceutical methods of relief and at the American Back Center we can manage these conditions with a variety of treatment methods with great success.

Below is a short list of common neck pain presentations and causes:

Mechanical Neck Pain

This is the most common cause of neck pain and it while it’s often considered one singular condition, studies are now revealing that what was once considered a simple ‘bout of neck pain’ often can be further distinguished into various sub-groups of pain, each with its own specific treatment protocol. By performing an MDT assessment (commonly known as the McKenzie approach), we can classify the neck pain and assign specific home-based exercises that literally correct the problem. Not all exercises programs are alike and usually the neck needs only one, targeted exercise to correct the problem. If you’ve already been to someone for your neck and you’ve been given a multitude of exercises but you’re still not getting better, consider the American Back Center.

Whiplash and accident-related neck pain

This is the most common neck complaint after accidents. When the neck is thrown around in a car accident or sport injury, the ligaments that hold the spine together can get overstretched and damaged. Similar to a sprained ankle, swelling occurs and movement makes the pain worse. Usually patients have strong morning pain a day or two after the initial injury. Unfortunately, many patients wait to have their spine examined, believing that the pain will resolve on its own and when it doesn’t – often weeks or even months later – only then do they seek treatment. Don’t delay! Early intervention leads to quicker and better outcomes.

Cervical radiculopathy

Patients can sometimes come to the office with hand, arm or shoulder pain, numbness, tingling or weakness and often this is actually a neck problem. When the sensitive nerves of the spine get pressed on by disc or squeezed by tight muscles these nerves send pain signals down their length, causing pain away from the spine. By treating the spine itself we can resolve the arm pain. However, it’s first important to determine if in fact the arm complaint is coming from the neck or whether it’s an actual arm complaint.

Neck Pain : The Truth

What Causes Neck Pain?

Neck Pain is very common, and can affect any adult person. Your age, weight, genetics and particularly lifestyle have a big role to play and decide the intensity of the pain. The bones, ligaments, and muscles of your neck support your head and allow for motion. Any abnormalities, inflammation, or injury can cause neck pain or stiffness

Neck Pain and what you can do to Help Yourself

You can reduce the intensity of the pain by performing a few chosen stretching routines and simple neck exercises recommended by our chiropractor. Chiropractic adjustments and spinal manipulations can help reduce chronic neck pain as well.

A Simple Treatment for Neck Pain

A common treatment for neck pain is the application of ice followed by rest. Ice therapy reduces the inflammation of the muscle tissues and lowers the severity of the pain to a considerable extent. However, it’s important to perform some simple neck exercises and to put the neck through a range of motions, as would be suggested by our physical therapist.

Sometimes Surgery is the Answer

When the neck pain is very serious and has been ongoing for an extended period of time, a surgical procedure can be performed as an option of last resort. Before recommending therapy we would usually try other non invasive options such as VAX-D or Pain Injections.

Visit American Back Center for Neck Pain Relief

Our Chiropractors and physical therapists provide a safe and natural treatment for neck pain. They use a combination of chiropractic adjustments, simple neck exercises and physiotherapy to restore motion to stiff joints and relieve the chronic neck pain.

Chronic Shoulder Pain | American Back Center

If Shoulder pain is left untreated, it can lead to something serious, and become a chronic problem. When your shoulder pain becomes chronic, it would be difficult for you to carry out your daily activities, such as carrying the groceries or lifting weights at the gym. You need help!

Chiropractic care is generally sought out by people who are looking for treatment for back pain or neck pain. What you probably didn’t know is that chiropractors, such as those at the Midwest Chiropractic Care Center, are also trained to adjust and treat extremities such as the knees, joints and the shoulders.

Visiting a chiropractor is very important and it is certainly a far better option than trying to treat yourself by resting or taking painkillers. That won’t heal the pain, and while it may give you temporary relief, it actually may make the pain worse in the long run. Also, painkillers are addictive and can lead to dangerous side effects.

Shoulder pain is generally caused by irritation in the joints. On other occasions, it is caused by tissue irritation. One of our pain management specialists can diagnose the problem accurately to start a proper treatment.

An MRI scan of the shoulder can be taken to identify the pain points. Our chiropractor would use techniques such as manipulation of the spine to offer relief for the shoulder pain. The treatment depends on the cause of the shoulder pain.

Our chiropractic then uses adjustments and other related treatments to restore the shoulder mobility and reduce the pain. They look at your overall health, and focus on your lifestyle and work habits rather than just on the shoulder. Chiropractic care involves taking a more holistic approach to pain medication.

They identify the cause of the shoulder pain and discuss your symptoms with you. In particular, our chiropractor will want to know about your prior injuries and health history, as well as your leisure activities.

Rest is in important part of the treatment. Rest allows the inflammation to subside to an extent. However, prolonged immobilization of the shoulder can lead to other complications such as frozen shoulder.

Application of ice and heat can help. Our pain management specialists usually recommend along side treatmet the use of ice packs and heat pads to offer relief for the shoulder pain.

Our pain management therapist can put you through a series of stretching exercises to stretch the certain muscles and tendons that surround the joint. This has to be done carefully, because if the right form is not followed for the exercises, it can make things worse for you.

If you’re over 35, there is every chance that you’ve suffered from lower back pain at least once in a while. Back pain is actually the most common disorder after headache. 80 percent of adults experience it at some point in their life.

Did you know that back pain is the most common reason for people to seek disability benefits from the government? A majority of health insurance claims relate to back pain. But the problem with this is back pain is not easy to quantify, so not everyone is able to get these benefits.

Back pain usually occurs in the lower back, as that’s the region that bears most of our weight. So from the medical point of view, back pain happens when the muscle, cartilage, bones and spinal cords of the back are out of place or affected in some way.

What Causes Back Pain?

Back pain is caused by a number of factors such as hard physical labor, repetitive work, heavy bending, twisting, pushing, shoving, lifting, being in a static position for longer than you should, and vibrations. There are psychological factors that cause back pain too, such as stress, job dissatisfaction, anxiety, depression and cognitive dysfunction. Back pain, once it occurs, can get worse every time you cough and sneeze or make even the slightest movement. You will experience a certain numbness and a tingling sensation in your arms and legs, which doesn’t go away.

Most adults over the age of 35 experience back pain at some point. The symptoms of the back pain depend on the area of the back that is affected by it. Here are the most common back pain symptoms.

Back Pain Symptoms in the Lower Back

Most people who suffer from back pain get the pain in the lower back region. That’s because the lower back bears the brunt of the body’s weight. Most of the pain is concentrated in the lower back, but it can hurt the front and back of the legs as well. Lower back pain occurs because of following the wrong posture. It can appear all too suddenly, when you are least prepared for it, because of heavy lifting or twisting. After a point of time, lower back pain can become unbearable. The pain is particularly bad at night, and makes it impossible to get a good night’s sleep.

Back Pain Symptoms in the Upper or Middle Back

When back pain hits the upper or middle back, it is concentrated in the thoracic spine and extends from the base of the neck to the lower part of the rib cage. The back pain appears as a shooting or burning pain. Upper back pain is generally caused by damaged nerves and is found in the arms, legs and the chest as well,

Slipped disc is a severe form of back pain which occurs due to the rupturing of the spine. When the spine ruptures, it causes the gel inside the disc to leak out. This causes a great deal of irritation to the sciatic nerve, and results in an unbearable pain that runs from from the lower back area to the front and back of the legs.
