The Benefit Of Chiropractic For Seniors

The Benefit of Chiropractic for Seniors Senior citizens can benefit from chiropractic wellness the most, but many do not know the benefits of chiropractic care. The fact is that like physical therapy rehabilitation, chiropractic care can keep people out of nursing homes and decrease their risk of falling and causing permanent injury. Falls are the cause of about 90 percent of the bone fractures that happen to Americans over the age of 65, but chiropractic wellness can drastically reduce that number.

Here are some more numbers about chiropractic care among the senior population from a study in "Topics of Clinical Chiropractic." Of seniors who entered physical therapy rehabilitation, only 44 percent reported arthritis compared to 66 percent from the group who did not. The seniors who had chiropractic care were also more likely to participate in strenuous exercise. And after three years, less than 5 percent of the seniors who practiced chiropractic wellness were in a nursing home compared to 48 percent of those who did not.

There were also half as many seniors from the chiropractic care group that had been hospitalized compared to the other group in this study. Physical therapy rehabilitation and chiropractic programs aren't just for people who have already been seriously injured, but also for those who want to keep aches and pains from leading to serious injury. Chiropractors reduce the risk of falls, and prescribe stretching and exercise programs to increase strength, flexibility, mobility, balance and coordination. With a properly implemented chiropractic wellness program, seniors can stay out of nursing homes, stay out of the hospital and live a more satisfying life.
