Most commonly it is done after an injury or when you are trying to regain strength in certain body parts. The purpose of physical therapy exercise is to build that healing body part back to its full functioning condition as quickly and painlessly as possible. There are different types of physical therapy exercise that you can go through, depending on what injury you are recovering from. If the injury being rehabilitated is anywhere serious, you might consider aquatic physical therapy to alleviate the pressure on the body part. The benefit of aquatic physical therapy is that you can still work on getting better without putting your body through a lot of stress. And there is enough natural resistance in water to still develop strength on your injured body part. Most physical therapy exercise is done in steps, increasing in intensity until you reach full recovery. Your first sessions will begin lightly, just getting some flexibility and strength back into your injured body part. Once you are able to move more normally, you might move into aquatic physical therapy of something light to begin recovery with as little stress as possible. Then you can begin more intense physical therapy, testing your strength after full recovery.
