Our History
The
American Back Center began in 1983 as Rosenthal Chiropractic Clinic,
S.C., founded by Allyne Rosenthal, D.C., who had recently graduated
summa cum laude from National University of Health Sciences.
Even early on, it was clear to patients and colleagues
alike that Dr. Rosenthal was gifted; both a natural healer & visionary
thinker, she was determined to demonstrate the incredible curing powers
of quality, holistic healthcare.
Word of her ability to diagnose,
treat and help her patients, and provide them with an alternative to
pharmaceutical drugs spread, and their numbers quickly grew.
By 1989, it had become clear that Dr. Rosenthal needed a bigger
clinic, and so she moved her practice to 122 S. Michigan. Shortly thereafter,
she brought in chiropractic associates and, by the early 1990’s, Dr.
Rosenthal had the largest woman-owned chiropractic clinic in America.
Throughout her career, Dr. Rosenthal has always searched for answers
to the healthcare problems troubling her patients. This led to her interest
in Vertebral Axial Decompression, or VAX-D® and, in 1993, to the creation
of The American Back Center. It also led her to an interest in nutrition
and, soon after, to her extensive training in Functional Medicine—still
practiced at The American Back Center as Nutritional Coaching & Lifestyle
Therapy.
Early in 2000, Dr. Rosenthal added Physical Therapy
to the clinic in order to provide an even wider range of non-surgical
treatment protocols to patients. Trained in both the evaluation and
treatment of musculoskeletal injuries, staff physical therapists use
a combination of hands-on techniques, an extensive array of therapeutic
exercises, and specific physiotherapy “modalities” such ultrasound,
electric muscle stimulation. These have made the difference in successfully
treating many difficult cases.
In 2007, again because of greatly
increased patient demand, the clinic moved to Suite 1770, a 5,000 square
foot space that now enables staff professionals to provide a variety
of services—including Physical Therapy, Chiropractic, Nutritional Coaching
& Lifestyle Therapy, Acupuncture, Massage, and VAX-D®.
Dr. Allyne Rosenthal’s comprehensive and truly
innovative approach to healthcare is what makes The American Back Center
so unique. Although she is not currently practicing, Dr. Rosenthal’s
long-time commitment to natural, effective healthcare that is both integrated
and personalized drives the center’s continued success.
